Diabolical. Fucking diabolical this book.
Lets first talk about Hazard and Somerset. You’d think, after all this time spent together and all this time being together they’d actually know how to communicate. But no, that would be too hard, right? I have to say, they did a little (emphasis on the little) bit better than the other books.
The amount of times I wanted to lock them in a room so that they’d actually TALK. These two take miscommunication to a new level.
Other then the miscommunication, I loved them together. They fit each other like puzzle pieces. They know each other inside and out. They’ve seen the good and the bad and the ugly of each other and they love each other to death.
At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about Hazard calling Somers “John”, but now I absolutely love it so much. I love every single time Hazard calls Somers “John”. It just feels so intimate, as if they are the only two in the room, as if you can feel the love between them. God, that’s what a nickname is supposed to be. That’s how you find a nickname for couple. If you’re writing a book with a couple in it, take notes. Because that’s how you find and integrate a nickname into the plot.
I didn’t bother trying to understand the plot. There’s a reason I don’t like mysteries and this series has just solidified it for me.
But if you love a good complicated mystery, this would be for you!
I enjoy a horror book. I like reading horror books. But holy fuck, those last 100 pages. I had to put the book down several times. I couldn’t. I wanted to chuck the phone against the wall several times and I was seriously considering it.
But those last 100 pages could be a separate book and labeled “horror”.
An amazing book that will drag you through the depths of emotions and you’ll come out a mess, but you’ll come out.

I wanted to chuck the phone against the wall several times and I was seriously considering it. Maybe it was because its them. Maybe it was because I read so much about Hazard and Somers I felt a connection to them.
